Talk 1: The Relationship Between Grace And Nature; A Wounded Nature and Sin
God’s Grace does not destroy nature, but perfects it by working through nature. Spiritual life is influenced by a person’s temperament and character, and the working of His grace.
Talk 2: The Struggle Against Sins and Imperfections
Our temperament and our character have a bearing on our conversion from sin, and growth in virtue, because the disposition to good or evil is rooted in them. Because of original sin, our nature is wounded and thus we are inclined to sin. As a result we struggle between the desire to do good and the predisposition to evil at the same time.
Talks 3 and 4: The Struggle Against The Devil, The World and The Flesh
Not all temptations come from the evil one. Some are the result of our own desires. To overcome temptation, we must know our enemies, namely, the Devil, the World and the Flesh. Understanding these 3 sources of temptation will help us to deal with them effectively. This requires an understanding of the strategy of the devil; how the world, although not an obstacle to holiness, can become so. However the devil and the world are only external enemies, the greatest enemy lies within us, because of our covetousness.
